Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission serves as an advisory body to the Board of Aldermen on planning and zoning matters. The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of nine members who serve without compensation and include the Mayor, a member of the Board of Aldermen, and seven residents of the City appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen. The term of each citizen member is for four years.

MEETING DATES & DEADLINES
The Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month, and the application deadline is 35 days before the meeting date. For most application types, the Planning and Zoning makes a recommendation to the Board of Aldermen for final approval. Applications heard by the Planning and Zoning Commission are normally presented to the Board of Aldermen for consideration on the third Monday of the same month.

APPLICATIONS
Certain land uses and development activities require prior approval by the City. Click here for application-specific requirements such as applicability, preapplication meetings, application submission and handling, staff review and action, notice and public hearings, review and decision-making bodies, and post-decision actions and limitations. Refer to the Summary Table of Application Procedures for an overview of all application types.
Preapplication Meetings
No application for zoning map amendment, major preliminary plat, master plan or and major site plan shall be submitted or accepted prior to completing the required preapplication staff and neighborhood meetings. Refer to Section 405.030 of the Municipal Code for additional information. Preapplication staff meetings may be requested through the Citizen Serve portal.
Fees
Application fees are specified in Section 135.100 of the Municipal Code.
