Overview

The Building Division, through the process of issuing building permits and conducting inspections, ensures that new structures are built so as to provide the required level of safety for those who use them. Permits are required for the construction of new residential and commercial buildings as well as any addition or modification to an existing structure which creates new habitable or occupiable space. Permits are also required for pools, fences, decks, and any similar structures. The installation or modification of electrical and plumbing systems requires a permit be issued and that the work be performed by a contractor licensed in the appropriate trade.

Another essential part of the Building Division's duties is to provide staff support, reviews and recommendations to the Architectural Review Board (ARB) which reviews most proposed residential construction projects and to the Development Review Board (DRB) which reviews most proposed commercial construction projects.  To apply for ARB approval only please submit a Residential Building Permit Application using the Citizenserve Online Portal.
